Culinary 226, Bartenders 165, and MGM Resorts Reach Contract Settlement
Ratification Vote Tomorrow
Las Vegas, NV – The Culinary Union Local 226, Bartenders Union Local 165, and MGM Resorts have reached terms for a new five-year contract. The tentative agreement will be voted on by union members on Wednesday.
The contract covers more than 21,000 Union positions at Aria, Bellagio, Circus Circus Las Vegas/Slots A Fun, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Monte Carlo and New York-New York Hotel. Some of the economic terms and provision would be applied to about 5,000 additional Union positions at MGM Grand Las Vegas, Signature and Vdara, properties whose contracts expire at other times.
Employee positions covered under this contract include food and beverage workers, guest room attendants, bell department, porters and many others.
Patricia Lindsey, a 15-year Bellagio housekeeper and member of the contract committee said, “We worked hard with MGM to negotiate a contract that protects benefits and gives workers the opportunity to provide for their families. It shows both sides are committed to making Vegas a good place to work and visit.”
The final negotiation session took place on November 5 at the Culinary Academy and lasted over 18 hours. Representatives from MGM properties were present from both sides. MGM is the first company to settle in Las Vegas following the June 1 citywide contract expiration.
Votes will be counted when ballot boxes close at 8pm. Results will be released Thursday morning.
