Swine Flu Awareness and Precautions We know that many Culinary members have questions about what to do to protect yourself at home and at work from swine flu. What is swine flu? The swine flu (also referred to as the H1N1 flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses that causes regular outbreaks in pigs. People do not normally get swine flu, but human infections can and do happen. Feeling sick? As part of your health plan, the Culinary Health Fund has set up a special appointment line available 24 hours a day to help Culinary members and their family members who may be sick but do not have a regular doctor. If you are experiencing flu symptoms, call the Dr. Tomorrow line at 702-691-5656 to schedule a same-day or next-day appointment. The appointment line is available 24 hours! Preventing the flu - Wash your hands frequently with soap and water to remove germs.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing and coughing. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- If you or your children get sick, stay home. Limit contact with others to avoid infecting others and avoid close contact with sick people.
- Practice other good health habits; eat healthy foods, drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of sleep and stay active.
What you should do at work? Many employers are providing their employees with guidelines to follow at their specific workplace. Please look for workplace instructions from your employer.
