Rallies call for immigrant protections, higher wages and school solutions

“Our goals were to demand that President [Joe] Biden keep his promise. The promise that he made to the immigrant community in providing a pathway to citizenship,” said Rico Ocampo, an immigrant justice organizer. “In addition to that, we’re also here to ask casino management to rehire those culinary members that were laid off during the pandemic.”

“On a historical level, May Day has always been known as a day to honor the international worker, it’s known as a day where we celebrate migrant labor, known as a day where we support unionizing,” said Ocampo. “For us, particularly this city, we know that union runs this city. And particularly families who are migrants. So we’re here not only to uplift their efforts, but also recognize their humanity.”
