The Republicans are election deniers: Senate candidate Adam Laxalt (Trump’s legal counsel on the Big Lie), Secretary of State candidate Jim Marchant (election conspiracy theorist), and Gubernatorial candidate Joe Lombardo is running because he thinks Culinary Union has too much power in Nevada.
The stakes in Nevada are high this election cycle. There is an urgent housing crisis with rent being up 30% in Las Vegas and 22% in Reno. Neighborhood Stability is the solution. We are fighting to keep leaders in office who have delivered for workers and had our backs.
Democratic Governor Steve Sisolak signed the Right to Return law (SB386) and the first in-the-nation COVID safety law (SB4) that brought hospitality workers back to work and protected our health.
Nevadan leaders: Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, and Representatives Dina Titus, Steven Horsford, and Susie Lee delivered 100% funded COBRA for laid-off workers’ health care, the Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan which put money in families’ pockets, and passed the Inflation Reduction Act that is now law. YES WE DID!To win in the Midterms, the Culinary Union is running the largest political program in Nevada. 250 statewide staffers have already knocked on 350,000 doors and are on track to knock on over 1 million doors.

STATE OF OUR UNIONIRS tip allocation update: 75 Culinary & Bartenders Unions tipped worker committee members met on September 8, 2022 at the Culinary Union with Nevada Congressman Steven Horsford, the IRS, the Nevada Resort Association, and the casino companies to push the IRS to fix the current unfair Tip Allocation Rates.
Shop stewards from Bellagio, Paris, Wynn, and MGM Grand shared their personal stories of how the Allocation Rate has negatively impacted workers and our families. Disappointingly the IRS was not prepared to negotiate and resolve the issue at the meeting, but the room full of committee leaders asked for another meeting in person in Las Vegas and the IRS agreed to that!
We need a leader in every area. Talk to your shop steward, committee leader, or organizer to get involved and prepare for the next meeting in early October!
Keep GRAs in stations for our safety! Culinary Union contract says GRAs get a credit reduction if they travel more than two floors in one shift and that MGM has to do welfare checks.
515 times Aria and Bellagio GRAs travelled three floors and didn’t get a credit reduction, according to 10 weeks of MGM data.
The same Aria and Bellagio data showed 12,003 times where for 3 consecutive days a guest room was refused service or DND or return later.
We have filed general grievances on the company ignoring stations, workload, safety, and credit reductions.
We demand the company agree to the HotSOS agreement now!
Upcoming negotiations: The fight for the biggest economic and growth package at Las Vegas Convention Center will begin soon. Negotiations at Palms and T-Mobile Arena are underway. Talk to your committee leader if you want to get involved.
Grievance report: Since January 1, 2022, union shop steward volunteers have dedicated 1,702 hours of their time to help with member grievances. If you want to learn more about your contract and volunteer with the Grievance Department, ask your organizer or shop steward.
NEIGHBORHOOD STABILITY CONTINUESThe North Las Vegas City Council tried to silence the voices of working people by refusing to put the Neighborhood Stability initiative ordinance on the ballot. We won’t be deterred, nor will we waste time in court. We will continue running the largest political field program ever in Nevada to elect candidates who will fight for workers.
The Culinary Union is signing up tens of thousands of voters to support the passage of Neighborhood Stability at the county level.
Nevada voters want our elected officials to stand with working people and the right to dignified affordable housing - not corporate landlords getting rich off of evictions.

VALLEY HOSPITAL PICKETHundreds of Culinary Union members picketed Valley Hospital as essential workers push for a new union contract. Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Congressman Steven Horsford, Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom, and Cisco Aguilar (candidate for Secretary of State) also joined the picket line to meet with Valley Hospital workers and lend their support.
Brenda, cafeteria worker at Valley Hospital for 5 years said:
"I have a 7-year-old son who has a speech delay and I work hard to provide for him, but it’s hard when we haven’t gotten a raise in years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, while most other hospitals were giving their essential workers bonuses and raises, Valley Hospital proposed lowering our pay! Valley Hospital, this needs to be resolved and stop union busting - it’s disgusting!”
Since the contract has expired, Valley Hospital has fired at least 4 Culinary Union members who were leaders in their workplaces, including most recently, Betty Williams, a committee leader and 40-year Culinary Union member.
The company also decided to suspend the Culinary Union organizer from the property and interfere with the Culinary Union’s right to access of workers and the unionized workplace.
Valley Hospital workers need a union contract NOW! No justice? NO PEACE!
VP HARRIS TOURS MGM GRANDOn August 10, 2022 the Culinary Union was pleased to host a back-of-the-house tour with Vice President Kamala Harris at the unionized MGM Grand Las Vegas Hotel and Casino.
Vice President Harris met with Ted Pappageorge, Secretary-Treasurer for the Culinary Union and Diana Valles, President of the Culinary Union before touring the bakery shop at the MGM Grand with Congressman Steven Horsford and Culinary Union members Angelica Santana and Dion Savage.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to show Vice President Harris where I have a good union job,” said Dion Savage, a bellman at MGM Grand and Culinary Union member for 32 years. “This pandemic has been tough but we got through it together. I’m glad that the Vice President and the Biden Administration have our backs as we continue to comeback stronger.”
WORKERS TO THE FRONT250 Culinary Union canvassers statewide are mobilizing hundreds of thousands of voters and are on track to knock on more than 1 million doors statewide in Reno and Las Vegas.
The largest Nevada political field program will be knocking on the doors of more than half of the Black and Latinx voters and more than a third of Asian American Pacific Islander voters this cycle.

JUSTICE FOR STATION CASINOS WORKERSThe Culinary Union and Station Casinos gave public comment before the Nevada Gaming Commission about Station Casinos shameful behavior towards their workers.
Station Casinos workers deserve better. Time and time again, they have stood up to this bad company. Workers are holding Station Casinos accountable and Nevada gaming regulators need to do the same.
Do state regulators have the power to discipline bad actors? We think working people are owed some answers.
SOLIDARITY: HAWAII VICTORYCongratulations to UNITE HERE Local 5 and the hotel workers at Hilton Hawaiian Village on ratifying a new union contract!
Their contract includes improved wages and benefits, recall rights, reinstatement of daily room cleaning and other hotel services, and more.
This victory means that daily cleaning of guest rooms will be resumed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, securing hundreds of housekeeping jobs and restoring a key element of quality guest service.
Culinary Union members get ready: Contract Fight 2023 is coming up!

Las GRAs de Aria y Bellagio viajaron tres pisos y no obtuvieron una reducción de crédito 515 veces, según datos de 10 semanas de MGM.
Los mismos datos de Aria y Bellagio mostraron 12,003 veces en las que durante 3 días consecutivos de una habitación ocupada se rechazó el servicio o pidió DND o pidió regresar más tarde.
