The Culinary Union continues to be unified and build worker power to win by: running the strongest political effort in Nevada during the midterms, reining in inflation and high prices, and ensuring that working people can provide for their families and buy their first homes. 📈 ‘Just Shocking’: Inflation Buoys GOP’s Hopes to Flip Senate Seat Ground Game
Cortez Masto’s campaign will have the benefit of a well-developed ground game, anchored in part by teams of canvassers from the powerful 60,000-member Culinary Workers Union.
Their goal is to visit a million doors by Election Day — up from 650,000 two years ago when they helped Biden edge out Trump here, said Ted Pappageorge, the union’s secretary-treasurer.
That door-knocking muscle can be especially important in a state with a transient population where a plurality of voters aren’t registered with either of the two dominant parties.

“Workers sacrificed to do whatever it takes to make sure this community got served, but now when it comes time to right this incredible wrong that Valley Hospital has wrought on their workers, when it comes time for Valley Hospital to settle up, they basically are stabbing workers in the back,” Pappageorge said.

🏡 Culinary, stymied by NLV, shifts rent stabilization effort to Clark and Washoe
After being rebuffed by the North Las Vegas City Council, which refused to put its rent stabilization initiative on the November ballot, Culinary Local 226 is expanding its effort to all of Clark and Washoe counties, and targeting politicians who oppose rent stabilization.
Hospitality industry workers are traveling the state “from Reno and Sparks, to Eastside and Westside, and in North Las Vegas,” says a news release from the union, announcing it will not fight NLV in court, but rather by electing officials who will enact an ordinance.
