Know Your Organizing Rights

KNOW YOUR ORGANIZING RIGHTS!

Workers have the right under Federal Law to organize themselves and select a Union to represent them. The law is the National Labor Relations Act. It is enforced by the National Labor Relations Board, which has an office right here in Las Vegas at 600 Las Vegas Blvd., South, Suite 400, Las Vegas, NV 89101.

NO ONE IN MANAGEMENT CAN ASK YOU QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR ORGANIZING ACTIVITY. FOR INSTANCE, YOU CANNOT BE ASKED:

  • Whether you support the Union.
  • Whether you have gone to Union meetings.
  • What has happened at Union meetings.
  • Who else supports the Union.
  • Why you want a Union.
  • What have you said to other workers about the Union, or what have they said to you.

Management cannot threaten you for your Union activity. It also cannot offer bribes to people to stop organizing.

It is illegal for management to retaliate against you in any way for exercising your rights. This includes any adverse action, whether it be a change in station, hours, duties or anything else. Of course, it also includes warnings or other forms of severe discipline.

You can talk about the Union at your property as long as you and the person you are talking to are both in a non-working area (such as the EDR, the locker rooms, or the parking lot) and both of you are on your own time (on a break, or before or after your shift). This includes signing people up on authorization cards and giving out union literature. It is illegal for anyone in management to try to stop you from doing this, or even try to get close and hear what is going on (“surveillance”).

If something like this happens to you — or you see it happen to a co-worker — tell your committee leader. Keep a record of the details. We have enforced this federal law many times and are ready to do it again.
