LGBT Center urged to drop UFC as 1Corporation of the Year' Lambda, Culin, ary Union cite homophobic, sexist remarks by fighters,' company reps -
Lambda Business Association and ether community groups _see page 23) have joined with the Las Vegas Culinary Workers Union, Local 226 urging The Center to reconsider honoring the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) as the Corporation of the Year.
In a letter to The Center, which a majority of the Board of Lambda has signed, the Culinary Union writes:
"We are aware that the UFC has made a donation to The Center. However, we strongly believe that it is not in the best interest of The Center to align with this human cage fighting promoter. The UFC's history of tolerating homophobic and sexist remarks reflects poorly on all those associated with it. We urge you to reconsider honoring the UFC as the Corporation of the Year."
No representative of The Center was made available for comment during the days before this article went to print. It should also be noted that the Culinary Union is involved in a bitter labor dispute with Station Casinos, owners of the UFC.
