Las Vegas Strip begins closing as governor orders shutdown to stem virus

The Culinary Union, which represents thousands of workers at casinos on the Las Vegas Strip and downtown, said it supports the decision, saying the order is necessary to protect workers and customers.

"We appreciate what has been implemented so far by MGM Resorts International, Wynn/Encore, and Cosmopolitan properties," the union said in a statement. "The Culinary Union demands every Nevada employer pay all of their employees (including part-time workers) and extend healthcare benefits."
