Union estimates thousands of members affected
Culinary Union President Diana Valles said TPS workers may account for up to 5 percent of the union’s 60,000 members.
The union said it negotiated up to five years of leave for TPS workers, protecting their positions and seniority while they seek another legal status. Workers cannot work during that leave period.
“The ones that are losing their TPS status — it’s like, how are we gonna provide for my family?” Valles said. “Because from one day to the other, I’m not gonna be able to work.”
