CONTRACT NEGOTIATION UPDATES
NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE for Hilton Grand Vacations, Hard Rock Las Vegas, Vdara, and Signature. Hard Rock subcommittees are in process.
 
The union busters at Valley Hospital are not agreeing to our great Culinary Health insurance and Circus Circus Reno management continues to treat workers as second-class, so the fight continues. Workers will fight until we win!

Los rompe-sindicatos de Valley Hospital no aceptan nuestro excelente seguro de salud de la Culinaria y la gerencia del Circus Circus Reno sigue tratando a los trabajadores como personas de segunda clase; así que la lucha continúa. ¡Los trabajadores lucharán hasta que ganemos!

TIME AND MOTION STUDY
In 2018, union members fought hard to win the strongest most comprehensive contract in history that includes a Time and Motion study for guest room attendants. Now we need to make sure the new 5-year contract will be enforced so that we can protect our jobs and families.
 
If companies expect that one worker will do the jobs of two or three workers, that will not stand. One job should be enough!
 
 

ESTUDIO DE TIEMPO Y MOVIMIENTOS
En el 2018, los miembros de la Unión lucharon mucho para ganar el contrato más fuerte y más extenso en nuestra historia, que incluye un estudio de Tiempo y Movimientos entre las recamareras. Ahora debemos asegurarnos de hacer cumplir el nuevo contrato de 5 años para poder proteger nuestros empleos y familias.

Si las compañías esperan que un trabajador haga el trabajo de dos o tres, eso no durará. ¡Un empleo debería ser suficiente!

AUTOMATION AND TECHNOLOGY
The Culinary Union has led the fight for respect on-the-job and we will not allow workers to be discarded. Casino companies have a responsibility to embrace negotiated protections in good faith and with shared purpose. We will enforce this new automation language. Companies introducing technology to eliminate jobs is not new. Hospitality jobs will continue to change and evolve as they always have.
 
Everyone deserves the right to dignity at work, the opportunity to provide for their family, to have job security and we will continue to lead the fight for those rights.

AUTOMATIZACIÓN Y TECNOLOGÍA
La Unión Culinaria ha encabezado la lucha por respeto en el trabajo y no permitiremos que los trabajadores sean descartados. Las compañías de los Casinos tienen la responsabilidad de acoger las protecciones que se negociaron de buena fe y con una meta compartida. Nosotros haremos respetar esas nuevas cláusulas sobre automatización. El que las compañías introduzcan tecnología para eliminar empleos no es algo nuevo. Los trabajos de hotelería seguirán cambiando y evolucionando como siempre.

Todos merecen tener el derecho a la dignidad en el trabajo, la oportunidad de proveer para su familia, y tener seguridad laboral; y nosotros seguiremos encabezando la lucha por esos derechos.

PALMS PICKET
Over a thousand UNITE HERE union brothers and sisters marched outside of Palms Resort Casino to demand a CONTRACT NOW! Last year, workers at Station Casinos’ Palms Casino Resort voted YES to join the Culinary Union.

Over one year later, Station Casinos still refuses to bargain with its workers. It’s time for Station Casinos to negotiate a first contract with their unionized employees!

Más de mil hermanos y hermanas sindicalistas de UNITE HERE marcharon frente a Palms Resort Casino para exigir un ¡CONTRACT AHORA! El año pasado, los trabajadores de Station Casinos en Palms Casino Resort votaron SÍ para afiliarse a la Unión Culinaria.

¡Es hora de que Station Casinos negocie su primer contrato con sus empleados sindicalizados!

UNITE HERE CONVENTION
Over the last 5 years, Culinary Union has changed 6,028 lives and unionized Trump Hotel Las Vegas, Hard Rock Las Vegas, Waldorf Astoria, Boulder Station, Palace Station, Green Valley Ranch, Palms, Sunset, and Fiesta Rancho. UNITE HERE at the 2019 Convention set a goal to change 100,000 more lives in the next 5 years.
 
UNITE HERE President D. Taylor was re-elected for another 5 years.
 
Culinary Union’s Geoconda Arguello-Kline and Ted Pappageorge were sworn in as UNITE HERE officers for 5 more years.

CONVENCIÓN DE UNITE HERE
En los últimos 5 años hemos cambiado 6,028 vidas y hemos sindicalizado el Trump Hotel Las Vegas, Hard Rock Las Vegas, Waldorf Astoria, Boulder Station, Palace Station, Green Valley Ranch, Palms, Sunset, y Fiesta Rancho. Durante la convención del 2019, UNITE HERE puso una meta de cambiar 100 mil vidas más en los próximos 5 años.

El presidente de UNITE HERE, D. Taylor, fue re elegido para otros 5 años.

Geoconda Arguello-Kline y Ted Pappageorge de la Unión Culinaria fueron juramentados como funcionarios de UNITE HERE por 5 años más.

NEVADA LEGISLATURE VICTORIES
7 major bills that the Culinary Union supported and fought for over the course of the 2019 Nevada Legislature were delivered to Governor Steve Sisolak and signed into law.

The bills were:
AB469 – “Ending Surprise Bills” will protect patients in Nevada by taking them out of the middle between providers and payers.
SB262 – “Asthma Transparency” will prevent price gouging for asthma medications.
SB276 – “Prescription Drug Structure Study” will create a study of drug pricing to identify how to reduce the price of prescriptions.
SB378 – “Stop Big Pharma Price Gouging” will provide transparency on high-cost brand, bio-similar, and generic drugs and make them affordable at fair rates.
AB317 – “Smart Healthcare Growth” will ensure Nevadans get the care they need when they need it, while protecting patients from expensive care the community doesn’t need.
AB232 – “Protecting Nevadans and visitors from non-Medicaid/ Medicare contracted Emergency Rooms”
SB544 - “Governor Sisolak’s Patient Protection Commission” will protect patients from getting ripped off. The price of healthcare is rising every day. Nevadans need protection from price gouging. We changed Nevada law!

GOVERNOR SISOLAK SIGNS BILLS AT THE CULINARY UNION
VICTORY! Governor Sisolak stood in solidarity with working people and signed important healthcare bills with Culinary Union members.

The Governor signed Senate Bill 378 and Assembly Bill 317 into law at the Culinary Union on Friday, June 14th.

*SB378, sponsored by Culinary Union member and State Senator Yvanna Cancela, will stop Big Pharma from price gouging in Nevada.
*AB317, sponsored by former Culinary Union shop steward and Assemblywoman Maggie Carlton, will create smart trauma growth in Las Vegas.

TRIUNFOS EN LA LEGISLATURA DE NEVADA
Siete importantes proyectos de ley que la Unión Culinaria respaldó y peleó a lo largo de la sesión legislativa del 2019 en Nevada fueron presentados al Gobernador Steve Sisolak y promulgados.

Esos proyectos de ley son los siguientes:
AB469 – “Fin de las Facturas Sorpresa”: Protegerá a los pacientes al quitarlos del medio entre los proveedores y los pagadores.
SB262 – “Transparencia en el Cuidado del Asma”: Evitará el abuso en los precios de los medicamentos para el asma.
SB276 – “Estudio de la Estructura de Medicamentos Recetados”: Creará un estudio de la fijación de precios farmacéuticos para identificar cómo
disminuir el costo de los medicamentos recetados.
SB378 – “Detener el Abuso de Precios de las Grandes Compañías Farmacéuticas”: Brindará transparencia con respecto a los medicamentos costosos de marca, biosimilares, y genéricos, y los hará económicos a tarifas justas.
AB317 – “Expansión Prudente del Cuidado de la Salud”: Asegurará que los residentes de Nevada reciban la atención médica que necesiten, cuando la necesiten, mientras protege a los pacientes contra atención médica costosa que la comunidad no necesita.
AB232 – “Protección a los residentes de Nevada y visitantes contra las Salas de Emergencia sin contrato con Medicaid/Medicare.”
SB544 - “La Comisión de Protección al Paciente formada por el Gobernador Sisolak”: Protegerá a los pacientes de ser estafados. El precio del cuidado de la salud está subiendo diariamente. Los nevadenses necesitan protección contra el abuso de precios. ¡Cambiamos la ley de Nevada!

EL GOBERNADOR SISOLAK FIRMA PROYECTOS DE LEY EN LA UNIÓN CULINARIA
¡TRIUNFO! El Gobernador Sisolak mantuvo su solidaridad con la gente de clase trabajadora y al lado de algunos miembros de la Unión Culinaria firmó para promulgar importantes proyectos de ley sobre el cuidado de la salud.

El gobernador promulgó el proyecto de ley del Senado 378 y el de la Asamblea 317 el viernes, 14 de junio, dentro de las oficinas de la Unión Culinaria.

*SB378, que fue propuesto por Yvanna Cancela, que es miembro de la Unión Culinaria y también Senadora Estatal, detendrá el abuso de precios de las grandes compañías farmacéuticas en Nevada.
*AB317, que fue propuesto por Maggie Carlton, una ex delegada sindical (shop steward) de la Unión Culinaria a ahora Asambleísta, creará una expansión prudente de salas de emergencia en Las Vegas.
