* 2018 CONTRACT FIGHT

On February 22, 2018, Culinary Union Negotiation Committee members attended negotiations with MGM Resorts International.

The Company claimed that new technology was needed on the job to compete, and made proposals to increase the extra board in all classifications to 40% in casual dining, and also new language on vacation, work week, and customer service requirements.

The Culinary Union pointed out that the Trump administration tax bill gave a nice Christmas present of $1.6 billion to the company, stock prices have tripled since 2013, and the Company is doing so well that they have given back $580 million to shareholders.

The Culinary Union focused on tough new proposals for job safety, job security, and growth for job opportunities for members, including safety buttons, strong harassment and discrimination language, and equal pay for GRAs. The Culinary Union negotiators pledged to propose a robust wage, benefit, and growth package to reflect the Company’s increased profits and strong economy.

* HERE TO STAY

Culinary Union members have met with Congresswoman Jacky Rosen, Congresswoman Dina Titus, and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto about a permanent solution for Temporary Protect Status holders.

Nery Martinez, a bar apprentice at Caesars Palace and TPS holder for 17 years, attended the State of the Union in Washington, DC with Congresswoman Jacky Rosen, and was the first Culinary Union member ever to do so.

The fight for immigrant rights continues! Text “TPS” to 877-877 to join the TPS committee.

* VICTORY: NO NEW GRA POLICY AT CAESARS PROPERTIES

Caesars Entertainment Corporation was threatening a new policy that would require guest room attendants to go into rooms where a guest has hung a “Do not disturb” or “Occupied” sign.

The Culinary Union and workers completely opposed the policy and told the company “NO.” Culinary Union members rallied in EDRs, delegated management, and we won! Now, security will do these checks, not GRAs.

When we fight together, we win together!

* CELEBRATING THE HISTORIC FRONTIER STRIKE

This year, the Culinary Union celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the end of the historic Frontier Strike.

26 years ago, on September 21, 1991, 550 hotel and restaurant workers at the Frontier Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas went on strike. For six years, four months and ten days, they maintained a 24/7 picket line. Not one striker ever crossed the line to return to work. On February 1, 1998, the Frontier Strike, one of the longest and most successful strikes in U.S. history, ended.
