In June 2021, the Culinary Union joined UNITE HERE and Black Voters Matter in the Freedom Ride for Voting Rights. On the sixtieth anniversary of the 1961 Freedom Rides from Washington D.C. through the South, these Culinary Union members traveled for 6 days from Las Vegas to Washington D.C. to protect the right to vote.

There is a new video out documenting this historic journey: Culinary Union Freedom Ride (2021)

For over eight decades, the Culinary Union has fought for working Nevadans and their families. As voter suppression laws targeting people of color move through state legislatures, UNITE HERE housekeepers, cooks, servers, and dishwashers, who are by majority Black and Latinx workers, will be the most impacted.

Although the Senate did not pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act this summer, this fight is far from over. UNITE HERE and the Culinary Union will continue to stand up and speak out against anti-democratic legislation that seeks to silence our voices.

"This is not the end of our journey. This is the beginning. And I want people to know that we will unite. We will come together. We will fight for the voters' rights." - Kimberly Ireland, bell desk dispatcher at The Mirage.

We vote. We win!

Nosotros votamos. ¡Nosotros ganamos!
