Under her Culinary Union contract, Torres Moreno said she will not be fired outright if her permit lapses, but she will be placed on extended status — without pay.
Without those work hours, Torres Moreno said she could lose the health coverage her 8-year-old daughter relies on for ongoing care.
“But as soon as my insurance is over, it’s like paying almost a thousand every week for therapies. And then her medication is almost $800. And so they can stop her seizures,” she said.
