President Trump’s Las Vegas visit draws protests

Meanwhile, the Culinary Union, the largest labor union in Nevada, also gathered to protest the visit earlier in the day.

“The ‘Trump slump’ is real. And it’s real for Las Vegas workers,” Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge said to the crowd.

Pappageorge slammed the Trump administration’s policies, specifically taking aim at “No Tax on Tips,” the same policy the president made his way to Las Vegas to tout.

“It is deeply flawed,” Pappageorge said.

Another hospitality worker, Joe Spica, who’s spent more than 25 years in the business, told 8 News Now he believes federal policies are playing a role in slowing tourism in Las Vegas.

“The occupancy at our hotels are down. Everyone that’s coming is spending less. This is a bad combo for tipped workers,” Spica said.

Spica, a bellman at the Cosmopolitan, said he’s even feeling the impact in his own pockets.
