Culinary Union members to share message at When We Were Young Festival presented by 7-Eleven and related events: Some food from festival sponsor comes at cost of low wages and expensive health care

LSG Sky Chefs workers prepare some prepackaged foods like salads and sandwiches for certain 7-Eleven locations across the U.S.

Las Vegas, NV - Workers for catering company LSG Sky Chefs will be present to share a message outside events associated with the When We Were Young presented by 7-Eleven music festival. They will share with festivalgoers that some fresh food products sold at 7-Eleven convenience stores come at the cost of low wages and health care benefits that cost too much for many workers to afford. 

WHO: Culinary Union members, including those employed by catering company LSG Sky Chefs. 

WHAT: Culinary Union members distribute materials outside When We Were Young Festival presented by 7-Eleven and related events.

WHEN:

WHERE: 

*Friday: Area15 (W Desert Inn Rd & Rancho Dr) and Las Vegas Festival Grounds (S Las Vegas Blvd & Circus Circus Dr).

*Saturday & Sunday: Las Vegas Festival Grounds (S Las Vegas Blvd & Circus Circus Dr).

WHY: 10,000 workers are employed by LSG Sky Chefs in cities across the U.S., including about 200 in Las Vegas. Some Sky Chefs workers make prepackaged sandwiches, salads, and other fresh food items up for sale at certain 7-Eleven stores. 

7-Eleven is the primary sponsor for When We Were Young presented by 7-Eleven. Sky Chefs workers plan to educate festivalgoers about their fight for a new contract by engaging with the public outside the festival and associated “Side Show.”

ABOUT CULINARY UNION:

Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165, Nevada affiliates of UNITE HERE, represent 60,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno, including at most of the casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip and in Downtown Las Vegas. UNITE HERE represents 300,000 workers in gaming, hotel, and food service industries in North America.
