ARCHIVES: 2002 Strike Vote
Archived news clips: On May 16, 2002, 25,000 casino and hotel workers came together at the Thomas and Mack and voted on whether to approve a strike with major employers on the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown Las Vegas. An overwhelming majority of workers voted “YES” to authorize a strike. The next day, major Las Vegas employers settled contracts with the Culinary Union, avoiding a major citywide strike. The new Union contracts included new language to ensure that over 11,000 housekeepers had safer workloads, better working conditions, and strong health benefits for all workers. VICTORY! YES WE DID!
