This year, the Culinary Union is celebrating our 90th anniversary and our proud legacy of winning for working families in Nevada. For nearly a century, Culinary Union has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with workers, transforming Nevada’s largest industry into one where hospitality workers have strong contracts, fair wages, and respect on-the-job. On Thursday, September 18th at 6pm, Culinary Union will host a "POWERFUL HISTORY PANEL: Women in the Industry" moderated by Diana Valles, President of the Culinary Union. POWERFUL HISTORY PANEL: Women in Industry 🗓️ Thursday, September 18, 2025 ⏰ 6:00-7:30pm 🎥 LIVESTREAM: facebook.com/Culinary226 Panelists include: *Francine Bender, a Bartenders Union Local 165 member and 40 year member who became the first woman to be Vice President when she was elected as a union officer. *Debra Jeffries, a 41 year Culinary Union member and long-time Shop Steward who went on strike for her family in 1984 and fought for the strong health care and pension benefits we have today. *Lupe Lucero, a working mother and Culinary Union member for 33 years before she recently retired, will share the immigrant worker experience, transitioning from non-union to a strong Culinary Union job. *Maria Saucedo, a guest room attendant and Culinary Union for 45 years who went on strike for 6 years, 4 months, and 10 days at the Frontier Hotel while raising her kids as a single mom. *Sandra Bougard, a Culinary Union member for 28 years, is a long-time Shop Steward who went on strike in 1984 as a 20-year-old guest room attendant. Now, she works as a cook at Mandalay Bay and has raised three kids with her strong union benefits.
